Message from the Project Director – Stitch Hope
I am deeply honoured to lead Stitch Hope, an initiative of Hope Legal Support Services, founded on the belief that true empowerment begins when people are given the opportunity to become self-reliant.
Many women possess talent, determination, and the desire to contribute to their families, yet they lack access to practical skills, training, resources, and opportunities. Stitch Hope is our humble effort to bridge that gap by providing women with quality training in stitching, tailoring, embroidery, and other income-generating skills.
Our objective is not simply to teach a skill. We want to transform skills into opportunities, opportunities into income, and income into dignity and independence. Wherever possible, we will support trained women with the resources, guidance, market connections, and seed support (Sustainable Development SDG-8) needed to start their own small businesses or secure appropriate employment.
We strongly believe that sustainable empowerment is achieved when a woman can earn for herself, contribute to her family, make decisions with confidence, and live a respectful and dignified life. We therefore want to move beyond temporary assistance and help women build a sustainable future through their own abilities and hard work.
As part of Hope Legal Support Services – “From Hope to Justice,” Stitch Hope also recognizes that economic independence and access to rights are closely connected. A woman who is skilled, informed, and economically empowered is better positioned to protect her dignity, claim her rights, and participate meaningfully in her family and community.

Our guiding belief is simple:
“Give a woman a skill, create an opportunity, and empower her to build her own future.”

Vision
To build a just, inclusive, and empowered society where women have the skills, confidence, and opportunities to live with dignity, achieve economic independence, and contribute to the well-being and prosperity of their families and communities.
Mission
Stitch Hope is committed to empowering women through practical skills development, vocational training, and sustainable livelihood opportunities. As an initiative of Hope Legal Support Services, Stitch Hope works to promote dignity, equality, self-reliance, and economic independence by helping women develop the ability not only to earn for themselves but also to support their families with confidence and dignity.
We work to:

  • Provide women with practical training in stitching, tailoring, embroidery, fashion, and other income-generating skills.
  • Create opportunities for women to develop sustainable sources of income.
  • Strengthen women’s confidence, independence, and decision-making abilities.
  • Support women in using their skills to contribute to household income and family well-being.
  • Help women become self-reliant rather than dependent on long-term assistance.
  • Promote equal access to skills development, vocational education, employment, and entrepreneurship.
  • Encourage women to establish home-based businesses, cooperatives, or other sustainable livelihood activities.
  • Connect trained women with markets, customers, employers, institutions, and relevant support networks.
  • Promote dignity, equality, respect, and freedom from discrimination, exploitation, and abuse.
  • Support women in understanding and claiming their fundamental rights.
  • Encourage women to share their knowledge and skills with others in their communities.
  • Contribute to the broader mission of Hope Legal Support Services by linking empowerment with rights, justice, opportunity, and human dignity.

Objectives

  • Provide accessible and quality stitching, tailoring, embroidery, and vocational skills training to women.
  • Equip women with practical skills that can lead to employment, self-employment, or home-based income generation.
  • Increase women’s participation in household economic decision-making and family support.
  • Help women generate dignified and sustainable income for themselves and their families.
  • Promote women’s economic independence and reduce financial dependency.
  • Develop women’s confidence, leadership, creativity, and entrepreneurial abilities.
  • Support trainees in establishing small businesses, cooperatives, or other livelihood initiatives.
  • Facilitate access to sewing machines, tools, materials, markets, and other resources where possible.
  • Create links between trained women and customers, employers, businesses, institutions, and community organizations.
  • Encourage the production and sale of quality garments, handicrafts, and other textile products.
  • Promote fair, safe, and respectful working conditions for women.
  • Raise awareness among women about their rights, dignity, equality, and protection from exploitation and abuse.
  • Encourage trained women to mentor and support other women in their communities.
  • Strengthen cooperation with Hope Legal Support Services and other relevant organizations to address women’s broader social, legal, and economic needs.
  • Measure the effectiveness of programs by assessing improvements in skills, confidence, employment, income generation, family support, and self-reliance.

Our Guiding Principle

“We do not want women to remain dependent on support; we want to help them become skilled, confident, and capable of supporting themselves and their families with dignity.”
